Kempton, Newcastle and Warwick

Newcastle begins its 3-day Northumberland Plate meeting today, when the main feature is the listed race for fillies over 10 furlongs at 18.00 CET. The interesting runner here is Gestüt Ammerland´s Gripsholm Castle (Henry Cecil/ Tom Queally), who beat a better fancied stable companion on her debut; the form of that race now looks smart enough for her to remain unbeaten here. The one to beat is clearly Mark Johnston s consistent Lady Jane Digby (Greg Fairley). The other good race at Newcastle is the Seaton Delaval handicap over the straight mile at 16.30, which looks wide open. Flipando (David Barron/ Neil Brown) and German-bred Raptor (Karl Burke/ Jim Crowley) have both been expensive to follow but could run better this time. There is also a listed race for fillies at Warwick, this time for 3yo´s only over 7 furlongs at 16.50.

The Queen´s Golden Stream ( Sir Michael Stoute/ Jamie Spencer). She is the likely favourite here after running very well at Royal Ascot last week. Damaniyat Girl (William Haggas/ Liam Jones) finished behind her then, but is now 6 lbs better off at the weights. The Queen also has a runner in the main race at Kempton´s all-weather meeting, a mile race for 3yo´s at 16.40. This is a very strong race for the money, and several of the runners, including the Queen´s Full Toss (Richard Hannon/ Seb Sanders) and the likely favourite, Godolphin´s Prince Siegfried (Saeed bin Suroor/ Ted Durcan) - runner-up in a French Group I when last seen- are making their seasonal debuts. Bridge of Gold (Mikael Magnusson/ Kevin Shea) has shown great promise and is our each-way selection.
