German runners at Longchamp

Longchamp stages a good card today, including 2 group races, both with strong German participation. In the Prix Daphnis for 3yo´s over 1800 metres at 15.20 Uwe Ostmann´s Globus (Andrasch Starke) makes his rappearance after finishing third in the German 2,000 Guineas last month; this will be a good test of this year´s German classic form. The one to beat is clearly the British runner, Mark Johnston´s Jukebox Jury (Royston Ffrench), who has had a leg injury and has not run since finishing second in last October´s Racing Post Trophy. André Fabre´s improving Golden Century (Maxime Guyon) is another danger.

There are 3 German runners in the Prix de la Porte Maillot over 7 furlongs at 15.50; all 3 of them - Abbashiva (Torsten Mundry/ Andrasch Starke), Peace Royale (Manfred Hofer/ Andreas Suborics) and Smooth Operator (Mario Hofer/ Maxime Guyon) were slightly disappointing last time, but their best form gives each of them a chance here. Other German-trained runners here today are Samiro (Werner Baltromei/ Dominique Boeuf) and Fair Lord (Dr. Bolte/ Thierry Jarnet) in the tiercé handicap over 3000 metres at 13.50, as well as Balboa (Baltromei/ Boeuf) in the second division at 17.20, while Butterfly Lady (Andreas Wöhler/ Eduardo Pedroza) and Elkantino (Dr. Bolte/ Thierry Thulliez) contest the mile claiming race for 3yo´s at 16.50.
