Fairyhouse (Ireland), Kempton (a.w.) and Ripon this evening

Easily the best race at Kempton´s all-weather evening meeting is the 10 furlongs handicap at 20.20 CET. With 14 runners, this looks fiercely competitive. Top weight Grand Passion (Chris Wall/ George Baker) was previously much better than this grade, but seems to have lost form completely, while Godolphin´s Covert Ambition (Saeed bin Suroor/ Ted Durcan), an easy winner of his only start - at Nottingham last November - is difficult to assess. CD winner Dark Prospect (Michael Jarvis/ Philip Robinson) and Bugaku (Sir Michael Stoute/ Ryan Moore) look the most reliable options. At Ripon, Inchpast (Mark Tompkins/ Nail Callan), who beat probably better opposition at Goodwood last week.

Can follow up in the 2 mile handicap at 22.10, while the mile handicap an hour later looks very tricky; Collateral Damage (Tim Easterby/ David Fentiman) was runner-up recently at Sandown, but top-weights Acrostic (Luca Cumani/ Neil Callan) and Benanndoner (Richard Fahey/ Paul Hanagan) look the two to beat. The most interesting runner at Fairyhouse this evening is Aidan O´Brien´s Liszt, who has been used as a pacemaker for the stable´s Derby hopes the last two times and now drops into handicap class with good prospects at 21.00. He will be ridden by the trainer´s 16yo son Joseph, who has already shown that he knows how to win races.
