Southwell (a.w.) this afternoon

Today´s only all-weather meeting is at Southwell, with mainly moderate racing and out-of-form performers. The clear exception is the class 4 mile handicap at 17.40 CET, easily the best race of the day. The one to beat here is clearly the much-improved More Time Tim (James Boyle/ Ross Atkinson), who has won his last 3 races, all over this CD, including a very easy success under today´s rider last Thursday. He is moving up in grade now, but should still be able to score again. The opposition is headed by Exit Smiling (Peter Midgeley/ P.Pickard) and Silver Hotspur (Conor Dore/ Liam Keniry), first and second in a similar race over this CD recently, and at the revised weights there should be little bewteen them. The 5 furlongs sprint handicap which opens the card at 15.10 looks very tricky, with 9 of the 10 runners CD winners, but none of them exactly in top form. Our two against the field are Spic ´n Span (Ron Harris/ Joe Fanning), whose only 2 career wins - from 32 starts- were over this CD, and Colorus (Andrea Atzeni), one of two runners trained by Bill Ratcliffe.
