Wolverhampton today

The only flat racing in Britain today is on the all-weather track at Wolverhampton, where there are some large fields. Easily the best race is the class 2 handicap over 6 furlongs at 17.40 CET, which looks very tricky with 11 runners, all of whom can be given a chance at their best. Mark Johnston continues in good form, and his only runner on the card Nightjar (Greg Fairley) clearly demands respect, having won 3 of his last 5 races, but all his best form is at Southwell, and the same goes for cult veteran Pawan (Ann Stokell). Mrs. Penny (Jeremy Gask/ Chris Catlin) as a CD winner last time out and looks an improver, but she is moving up in grade. The safest option seems to be front-runner Tamagin (Kevin Ryan/ Jamie Spencer), who always runs his race. The 7 furlongs handicap at 16.10 is also wide open. Top-weight Cornus (Alan McCabe/ James Doyle) is on a hat-trick, but it is not certain that he can give weight to Ravi River (Tom Dascombe/ Richard Kingscote), who is coming back to form, and especially to Clive Brittain´s Mudish (Robert Winston), who won at Southwell last time despite hanging right across the track, and whose trainer is having a good run.
