Dubai Racing Carnival

The Dubai Racing Carnival continues today with another high c lass card featuring 7 competitive and valuable races, 5 on dirt and two on turf. The two most important events are both on dirt, and pride of place goes to the UAE 2,000 Guineas at 19.05 CET. This event has been dominated in recent years by two trainers, Saeed bin Suroor and Mike de Kock, and today´s running should again see these trainers taking most of the prize-money; in fact they supply 5 of the 10 runners. The Godolphin team seem to have the strongest cards, and their high-class U.S. import Vineyard Haven (Ted Durcan) is undoubtedly one of the most interesting runners, so it seems significant that Frankie Dettori has chosen to partner recent course winner Desert Party, who holds his stable companion Regal Ransom (Daragh O´Donoghue). Mike de Kock´s two runners Blues and Rock (Johnny Murtagh) and Rocks Off (Kevin Shea) are no back numbers, but Saeed bin Suroor appears to hold the aces here. However de Kock and Shea can take the 5 1/2 furlongs race at 18.30 with the high-class JJ the Jet Plane, who has won his last 5 races. Despite his Group One penalty, he should outclass today´s opposition en route to challenging for the Golden Shaheen on Dubai World Cup day.
