all-weather racing at Lingfield and Kempton

today´s British action is now concentrated on the all-weather meetings at Lingfield this afternoon and Kempton this evening. Kempton still has an inspection to pass, as there are still lumps of frozen snow on the track, but seem optimistic that racing can go ahead. If so, the best race of the day will be the 7 furlongs handicap there at 21.20 CET. With 9 runners, this looks very open, though Trafalgar Square (Mike Attwater/ Paul Doe) is likely to start favourite after winning both his starts this year. Opus Maximus (Mark Johnston/ Greg Fairley) has been off the track since Ocober, but still looks a big threat, as is the in-form Southandwest (Stan Moore/ Luke Morris), while Tamagin (Kevin Ryan/ Neil Callan) has been racing in better company and is not impossible despite top weight. An interesting runner at the meeting is Tusculum (Andrew Stringer/ Tom Queally), who runs in the class 7 classified stakes over 1 1/2 miles at 19.50. This one time Derby hope for Gestüt Schlenderhan , when he was trained by Aidan O´Brien, was off the course for almost 2 years after running fifth in the 2006 St. Leger -form which would see him win this race by two distances. However his 4 runs since his comeback have been catastrophic, and he finished stone last in three of them, beaten a total of 225 lengths! At Lingfield, the most interesting event is the 3yo handicap over 6 furlongs at 16.35, in which all 7 runners have a chance.Five Star Junior (Lydia Stubbs/ Tom Eaves) is much improved and has won all 3 starts in 2009, but meets Satwa Street (David Simcock/ Martin Dwyer) on 11 lbs worse terms for less than a length on their running this CD a fortnight ago, while Mick Channon´s My Best Bet (Marc Geran) also comes int the reckoning following his easy win at Wolverhampton last week.
