German runners at Deauville

The last 3 racedays at Deauville have all had to be abandoned because of the weather, but it seems that todays meeting will go ahead. Once again there is a huge card, with 4 races in the morning and 8 in the afternoon, most of them with maximum fields. Several German-trained runners have made their way to the Normandy coast, and Sascha Smcrzek has runners in two divisions of the 1500 metres handicap. In the best division, the valuable tiercé race at 14.05, he saddles Fareion and has booked top jockey Dominique Boeuf; on form he is one of the favouritres, but is badly drawn. In the next division at 14.35 he runs Pixie Dust with Eve Meutzner, one of whose opponents will be Agent Almeida (Mario Hofer/ Alxi Badel). In the claiming race over 1500 metres for "jeunes jockeys" at 16.35, there are 3 German entries: Global Dream (Nicholas Perret) and Stargazer (Tony Farina), both trained by Dieter Fechner, and Naranja (Pavel Vovcenko/ Delphine Santiago)., while Fechner has booked Franc k Blondel to partner Lamborgino in the concluding handicap over 3400 metres at 17.05. Under the ciurcumstances, punters should be careful with their betting but in our view the best prospect of a German victory is Pavel Vovcenko´s Gainsbury (Delphine Santiago) in the first race of the afternoon at 13.30, another event for "jeunes jockeys" over 1500 metres.
