German runners at Cagnes-sur-mer

As we predicted here yesterday, Werner Baltromei is back in form with two winners, both of them tipped in this column. He cannot repeat this feat today, when he only has one starter, Alpenadler (Dominique Boeuf) in the 1600 metres claimer for 4yo s at 15.35, running under the Ghoumrassi banner. There could however be two German winners, both trained by Pavel Vovcenko and ridden by Thierry Thulliez, who are responsible for Gainsbury, who has top/weight in the 2000 metres handicap at 16.05, and last week s easy winner Naranja, who attempts to follow up in the mile claiming race at 16.35. Both these should run well, but punters are advised that these are both really tough races, and our preference in the latter race is for Bernando (Bertrand de Balanda/ Boeuf). As usual, all 7 races today will be run on the fibregrass track.
