German runners at Cagnes-sur-mer

The Cagnes-sur-mer meeting continues today with several more German-trained runners, who will be hoping to improve on the miserable showing of their compatriots last week. Pavel Vovcenko runs three, including Gainsbury and Salon Turtle in the two divisions of the 1500 metres handicap at 13.50 and 16.50. Both will be ridden by Delphine Santiago and have chances in two very open races, but with 18 runners in each it will not be easy. Vovcenko´s third runner is Kasus in the 3100 metres handicap at 15.50, also with a field of 18. This tricky 11-year-old needs to be brought to challenge as late as possible, and possibly Dominique Boeuf, who rides this track better than anybody, is the right choice for jockey. Werner Baltromei´s Star Warrior (Koen Clijmans) also runs in this, and the Mülheim trainer also two runners under the Ghoumrassi banner - Lord Sam in the 3yo claimer at 14.20 and Alpenadler in another claimer at 16.20, both with Boeuf in the saddle. Best race on the card is the conditions event for 5yo´s and up over 2400 metres at 15.20. Libertador (Jean-Marie Capite/ Thierry Thulliez) and Cristobal (Jean-Claude Rouget/ Ioritz Mendizibal), both being aimed at the big races later in the meeting, stand out here and should have the finish to themselves.
