Opening day at Cagnes-sur-mer

Winter is here and today sees the opening of the winter meeting at Cagnes-sur-mer on the French Riviera. For the next month they will stage N.H. racing and from mid-January onwards flat racing. It seems that there will be far fewer German runners at the meeting than in past seasons, owning to the reluctance of the Cagnes authorities to give stabling to German trainers. It seems that some French trainers have objected to the large number of German-trained runners (and winners!) in recent weeks in French races. There is also trotting today at Vincennes.
