All-weather action today

Southwell stages the only flat racing today, and 6 of the 8 races at the Nottinghamshire track are class 6 events with large fields of moderate performers. The shining exception is the class 3 handicap over 5 furlongs at 14.00 CET, with 11 runners.almost all of them CD specialists. Oldtimer Pawan (Ann Stokell) has had a 3 week break and runs his best races here; with a professional jockey he would have a great chance. However that is not the case, so Yungburra (Steve Parr/ Adam Kirby) and Bibiou (Robert Cowell/ Eddie Ahertn), 3rd and 5th in a similar event at Great Leighs on Saturday, must be preferred, while Tartatartufate (James Gven/ Chris Catlin) and Garlogs (Reg Hollinshead/ Hayley Turner) must also be considered. The class 5 handicap over 1 3/4 miles sees the comeback of Zaffeu (Tony Juckes/ Vince Slattery) who won 4 races from 5 starts in the first few weeks of this year but has been off the track since. As he may need the race, preference is for the consistent top-wei ght Pertemps Network (Mick Easterby/ Dale Gibson) and Dart (James Fanshawe/ Adam Kirby), disappointing favourite last time out but certainly capable of better.
