Newmarket - final meeting of 2008

The flat race season is rapidly coming to an end, and Newmarket begins its final meeting of 2008 today, when the main feature is a listed race for 2yo fillies at 14.50 CET. Penny´s Gift (Richard Hannon/ Ryan Moore) has the best form, having run well in group races, but she has 8 races already under her belt and may be vulnerable to a lightly-raced improver, such as Miss Eze (Alan Munro), one of the last runners to be saddled by Geoff Wragg. She was an easy winner of her only start, a Folkestone maiden, and although that form is nothing special, she looks capable of holding her own in better company. The class 3 conditions race at 16.00 is an interesting event, as this 6 furlongs race is confined to 2- and 3yo´s only, and in fact the juveniles (who receive plenty of weight) have had much the better of things in recent years.Godolphin´s Khor Dubai (Ted Durcan), a clase 4th of 22 in a valuale race at Redcar, looks the best of the younger age group and Khaldoun Kingdom (Richard F ahey/ Paul Hanagan) is the pick of the 3yo´s after his good second of 19 in a Doncaster handicap a week ago. There is also flat racing on the all-weather at Wolverhampton this evening, where course specialist Just Bond (Geoff Oldroyd/ PJ McDnald) can defy top weight in the 9 1/2 furlongs handicap at 21.20 and record his 8th course victory.
