Racing on the beach at Laytown

Tipperary is off today in Ireland, but there is one of the most attractive Irish meetings of all - Layton Races, where all the 6 races are run on the beach before a huge and enthusiastic crowd. Although the races are all of modest qualkity, several top trainers, wuch as Dermot Weld, have sent runners, while top jumps jockey Ruby Walsh rides on the level today with several good rides. especially January for his father Ted in the 7 furlongs maiden at 16.30 CET. He could also be thereabouts on Gandolfini for Harry Rogers at 16.00 and Ideal Appeal for Mike Halford at 18.05, both in 6 furlong handicaps. Ex-German Maximo (Tom McCourt/ Mr.M. Fahey) holds good each-way prospects in the amateur riders 7 furlongs handicap at 17.35.
