Prince Flori at Maisons-Laffitte

Main feature at Maisons-Laffitte today is the Group Three La Coupe over the straight 2000 metres at 15.50 CET, and there are high hopes of a German victory with Prince Flori (Sascha Smcrzek/ Andrasch Starke), who won the Spreti-Rennen at Baden-Baden last tme out. This straight 10 furlongs could be just the ticket the Lando colt and Andrasch Starke, who rode him at Baden-Baden, knows now how to ride him to best advantage. He is one of only 2 penalised runners in the field of 9, having won a group race this year, but most of the others are not up to this standard. There are plenty more German-trained runners on the card. Bebe Vettori (Waldemar Hickst/ Andreas Suborics), Ziethe (Andreas Trybuhl/ Christophe Lemaire) and Triple Beat (Mario Hofer/ Jean-Pierre Carvalho) all run in the opening tiercé handicap over a mile at 13.50. Werner Baltromei saddles Canall (Dominique Boeuf) in a race for unraced 2yo´s at 14.50 and Fever with the same jockey in a claiming race for 3yo´s over 120 0 metres at 16.20. The claiming race at 16.,50 is over the unusual distance of 800 metres, which could be just right for the tricky Omasheriff (Baltromei/ Boeuf), whose opponents include Zobel Davis (Stephan Buchner/ Subi) and Aradia (Werner Glanz/ Carvalho), while Dosimo (Buchner/ Subi) runs in the second division of the mile handicap at 17.20.
