Pontefract and Great Leighs

There is flat racing this afternoon at Pontefract and this evening on the all-weather at Great Leighs. Unfortunately t now seems that Aidan O´Brien will not be sending Duke of Marmalade and other stars to Saturday evening´s big Breeders Cup trials at Great Leighs, but it was certainly an interesting idea. This evening´s card is very modest in comparison. The most interesting runner is Sir Mark Prescott´s Prescription (Jean-Pierre Guillambert) who goes for a quick four-timer in the 6 furlongs handicap at 20.50 CET. She is a late starter but has won her last 3 races so easily- most recently on Monday- that she should have no trouble in defying top weight here. At Pontefract, the 5 furlongs handicap at 17.00 offers its usual pouzzl with 16 runners. Mr. Wolf (David Barker/ Tony Hamilton) rns his best races here, where he has 5 victories to his credit, but hat-trick seeking Arganil (Kevin Ryan/ Neil Callan) has only a 6 lbs penalöty for an easy win last week at Beverley and looks the one to beat. The class 2 handicap over 10 furlongs at 17.3o should chiefly concern Mark Johnston´s front-runner Luberon (Joe Fanning) and Sir Michael Stoute´s improving 3yo Ascot Lime (Ryan Moore). Stoute and Moore can double up on the following mile maiden with Custody, who is likely to start at very short odds. German-bred Princess Flame (Brendan Powell/ Kylie Manser) was an easy CD winner with this rider last week and can follow up under a penalty in the apprentice handicap at 18.30
