Another big day at Ascot

The card on today´s third day of Ascot´s big September meeting is not as illustrious as yesterday, but is still pretty impressive, with two group races ad a listed race. Only 5 turn out for the Group Three Cumberland Lodge Stakes at 15.40 CET, which should go to Jeremy Noseda´s Sixties Icon (Frankie Dettori). However the Grpup Two Diadem Stakes over 6 furlongs at 16.15 looks mch more competitive with 15 runners. Sir Gerry (James Fanshawe/ Jamie Spencer) ran dismally in the July Cup last time, but his earlier third place over this CD at the Royal meetings gives him a good chance. However Richard Hannon, who could well enjoy a massive day (see the Curragh) has strong prospects here with Assertive (Ryan Moore), second to African Rose at Doncaster last time, and the consistent Edge Closer (Jimmy Fortune). The 9yo Distinction (ir Michael Stoute/ Ran Moore) loves it here and can repeat his 2007 victory in the listed 2 miles race at 17.25, where front-runner Tungsten Strike (Amanda Perrett/( Jim Crowley) should ensure a true-run race. Godolphin´s Sagara (Dettori) could win this at his best, but we are still waiting for a sign that the stable is coming into form.

3.Race: Sir Gerry - Edge Closer - Lesson In Humility
