WHOLE OF EBOR MEETING ABANDONED

the bad weather continues and after an inspection today it was decided to abandon the whole of this week´s Ebor meeting at York, i.e. Thursday and Friday as well as the first two days. Efforts are now being made to stage the featured events at other meetings, probably Newbury, Newmarket and Goodwood at the end of this week. It is hoped that the Ebor Handicap itself (the richest handiap in Europe), the 3 Group Ones, 4 Group Twos and the valuable sales race for 2yo´s can all be saved, although this will require some complicated planning. This is a great blow to British racing as many racegoers regard the Ebor meeting as the best of the entire season. This afternoon´s racing at Hamilton has also been abandoned.
