Newmarket July meeting: day two

The sun is shining today in Newmarket, but after yesterday´s heavy rain the ground is certain to be soft. Main feature of th second day of the July meeting is the Group Two Princess of Wales Stakes at 16.10 CET over 1 1/2 miles. With 4 non-runners already announced, only 7 are now left, with the filly Anna Pavlova (Richard Fahey/ Jamie Moriarty), who loves this ground and was an easy winner of the Lancashire Oaks last Saturday, last year´s winner Papal Bull (Sir Michael Stoute/ Ryan Moore) and Godolphin´s Sagara (Saeed bin Suroor/ Frankie Dettori), third in last year´s "Arc", the likeliest winners. Another Group Two race is the July Stakes for 2yo´s over 6 furlongs at 15.00, also with 7 runners. Peter Chapple-Hya,m´s Sayif (Alan Munro) started odds-on on his debut, but went umnder by a short head. This is much tougher, but he may still be good enough. Prolific (Richard Hannon/ Ryan Moore) and Effort (Mark Johnston/ Kerrin McEvoy) both ran well at Royal Ascot and are the dangers. However Sayif fares, his team should take the opening listed race for 3yo´s over 1 mile 5 furlongs with Bouguereau, who has easily the best form in the field.
