Irish racing this evening

There isa good flat card this evening at Leopardstown, and although there are only four tunners in each of the two group races, both should be hugely informative. The Tyros Stakes for 2yo´s over 7 furlongs at 19.25 CET sees the return of Jim Bolger´s smart filly Cuis Ghaire (Kevin Manning), already quoted as favourite for the 2009 1,000 Guineas. She was a good winner at Royal Ascot, but will need to be at her best to defeat Aidan O´Brien´s Rip van Winkle (Johnny Murtagh), who won on an objection at the Curragh on his debut and is highly rated by his shrewd connections. Both are by young superstar stallion Galileo. Aidan O´Brien is double-handed in the 10 furlongs Meld Stakes at 21.00, with King of Westphalia (Seamus Heffernan) expected to act as pacemaker for King of Rome (Johnny Murtagh), last seen in the German Derby at Hamburg. These two are 3yo´s while the other two runners are both tough 7yo´s - Kevin Prendergast´ s Mustameet (Declan McDonough) and Charles O´Brien´s Lord Admiral (Mick Kinane). Two likely winners at Limerick´s N.H. meeting are Jessica Harrington´s Desert Abbey (Andrew Leigh) in the 2 mile hurdle at 19.45 and Peter Casey´s Charlies First (Barry Geraghty) in the 2 3/4 mile chase at 20.20.
