Royal Ascot: day four

Main feature at Royal Ascot today is the Group One Coronation Stakes for 3yo fillies over a mile at 16.45 CET. This race does not have quite the glamour of the Gold Cup or Prince of Wales, but it is still a fascinating race, which can tie up the form between the British, Irish and French classics. Unfortunately none of the 1,000 Guineas winners from those countries line up today, the only classic winner being Clive Brittain´s Love of Dubai (Darryll Holland), who won the Italian 1,000 Guineas before finishing third in the German version - with all due respect, it would be a miracle were she to win today.

English form is represented by theCheveley Park pair Spacious (James Fanshawe/ Jamie Spencer) and Infallible (John Gosden/ Jimmy Fortune), senond and fourth behind Natagora at Newmarket, while Modern Look (David Smaga/ Stephane Pasquier) was fourth to Zarkava at Longchamp and has since won a Group Two easily. On the whole the French looks better this year. In view of Aidan O´Brien´s incredible stable form (four Group Ones already at this meeting!) it would be unwise to ignore his entry Psalm (Johnny Murtagh), although strictly speaking she is held on the French Guineas form, where she finished sixth, by Modern Look.
