Warwick and Nottingham

Flat racing today at Warwick and Nottingham, with the going soft at both tracks. The best race of the day is the class 3 conditions race over 7 furlongs at 17.00 CET at Warwick. Only 5 runners, but all of them classy performers, headed by Welsh Emperor (Tom Tate / Micky Fenton), who finished runner-up to Toylsome in the Prix de la Foert (Group One) last October. He has to give 8lbs to all his 4 opponents today but should be up to this task. Caldra (Sylvester Kirk/ Richard Hughes) looks the main danger; he was slightly below form last year, but was a smart 2yo in 2006, winniung 4 races, including a Group Three. Andrew Balding´s oldtimer Vanderlin (William Buick) and smart handicapper Dabbers Ridge (Barry and Michael Hills) are not out of it either. The following class 4 handicap over 10 furlongs can go to Moheebb (Mrs. Carr/ Andrew Mullen), 2nd of 16 at Newcastle 10 days ago. Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam and jockey Alan Munro look the team to follow at Nottingham today. They can take the two divisions of the 3yo maiden over a mile with Azeer (not seen out since finishing a close 8th at Royal Ascot) at 16.20 and Glorious Gift (in the frame all 3 starts so far) at 16.50, and Jaser, who looks a good thing to win the mile handicap at 17.20 after his easy win over this CD 13 days ago, for which he has been raised 8 lbs.
