Maisons-Laffitte today

Two Group Two races are the features of today´s card at Maisons-Laffitte. The Prix Eugene Adam for 3yo´s over 2000 metres at 15.40 CET has ten runners, but only 4 of them are trained in France; there are 5 English-trained runners and one from Germany - Gestüt Ittlingen´s Hollywood Kiss (Andreas Wöhler/ Maxime Guyon), moving up in grade after finishing second in an Italian listed race and before that winning a listed event at Dortmund. For a while connections considered supplementing him for last week´s German Derby, but this race looks almost as tough. Of the British runners Xtension (Clive Cox/ Christophe Soumillon) has the best form but is possibly best at a mile. Over this trip we have a slight preference for Azmeel (John Gosden/ William Buick) and Emerald Commander (Saeed bin Suroor/ Mikael Barzalona), who can contribute to another big Sunday for Godolphin. Best of the locals should be Lumineux (André Fabre/ Olivier Peslier).

The best German chance of the day in our view is Nina Celebre (Peter Schiergen/ Dominique Boeuf), who runs in a listed race for 4yo and older fillies and mares at 16.10; her Munich form gives her an excellent chance. German-bred La Boum (Robert Collet/ Thierry Jarnet) would win at her best, but has been running far too often for our taste. Collet has better prospects with Wizz Kid (Gregoire Benoist) in the Prix Robert Papin over 1100 metres for 2yo´s at 14.35; Newmarket raider Approve (William Haggas/ Richard Hughes). a Royal Ascot winner, looks the main danger.
