Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot

Highlight on the fourth day of Royal Ascot is the Group One Coronation Stakes for 3yo fillies over a mile at 16.45 CET and this promises to be one of the best races of the week. The winners of the English, Irish and French 1,000 Guineas- respectively Ghanaati (Barry and Richard Hills), Again (David Wachman/ Ryan Moore) and Elusive Wave (Jean-Claude Rouget/ Christophe Lemaire) respectively - line up here and there is plenty of opposition as well.

John Oxx, always to be feared at these big meetings has supplemented the Aga Khan´s Baliyana (Mick Kinane), Alain de Royer-Dupré has entered Reggane (Gerald Mossé) and then one must consider Rainbow View (John Gosden/ Jimmy Fortune) and Heart Shaped (Aidan O´Brien/ Richard Hughes), who both ran well behind Ghanaati at Newmarket. Rainbow View started hot favourite there as a result of her outstanding juvenile form, but could not act on the firm going. She then finished an unlucky 4th in the Oaks after being badly hampered, but this trip may in any case be more suitable.

This race should certainly sort out the pecking order among the 3yo fillies at a mile (over a longer trip Stacelita seems impregnable) and with Again possibly needing softer going, we prefer the classic winners Ghanaati, who was most impressive at Newmarket, and Elusive Wave, who won equally easy at Longchamp. Both made all the running so the tactics here will play a major role and they could be playing into the hands of a strong finisher.

Betting forecast: 3. Race: Ghanaati - Elusive Wave - Rainbow View
