Strong Gosden duo in the Winter Derby

Lingfield, Saturday 25 February: The Winter Derby (4th race/15.05pm/100,000 pounds/2012m) will be decided on the Polytrack at Lingfield today. In the first English Group race of the season John and Thady Gosden are well placed with Lord North (Robert Havlin) and Forest of Dean (Collen Storey).

The two already met last year, but did not finish higher than second and fifth behind the German-bred Alenquer. Lord North won the Dubai Turf (Group 1) at Meydan shortly afterwards. His training companion, winner of the 2021 Winter Derby, took a longer break. He won a qualifier for the All-Weather Championships in January. Tyrrhenian Sea (David Egan) finished very well in the Dirt Championship in April, Harrovian (Kieran O`Neill) pleased in Newcastle behind Forest Of Dean and ahead of King Of The South (Jamie Spencer). Foxes Tales (Rob Hornby), hardly tested on sand, enters from the break. Lucander (Andrea Atzeni) ran only a week ago in Bahrain, where he pinned a Group 2 race to his banner over grass.
