Festival Trials Day at Cheltenham

Cheltenham, Saturday 28 January: Obstacle racing is currently on shaky ground, but track inspectors gave the green light for today`s Festival Trials Day at Cheltenham.

The card, packed with Group highlights, includes the Clarence House Chase (4th race/14.20pm/100,000 pounds/3371m), in which Energumene (Paul Townend), from the stable of Willie Mullins, should be hard to beat after his recent triumph in the Hilly Way Chase (Group 2). The nine-year-old`s main rival is Edwardstone (Tom Cannon) despite his slip-up in the Desert Orchid Chase (Group 2). Benefiting from the error of King`s previous winner in the Tingle Creek Chase (Group 1) was Editeur du Gite (Niall Houlihan), who had run a creditable third in a previous Handicap Chase. Funambule Sivola (Charlie Deutsch) came in 36 lengths behind Editeur du Gite at Kempton and is also only speculating on a place money today, which also applies to Amarillo Sky (Brendan Powell) and Sizing Pottsie (Tom Scudamore).
