Modern Games back on the winning track?

Deauville, Sunday 10 July: Eleven of the best sprinters of the 2019-born crop meet today in the classic Prix Jean Prat (5th race/15.50/400,000 euros/1400m).

Trained by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin, Modern Games (William Buick) made his first appearance over two kilometres in the French Derby and was promptly beaten. Prior to that he easily won the Poule d`Essai des Poulains (Group 1) against Texas (Clement Lecoeuvre) and Tribalist (Mickael Barzalona). Modern Games is also considered a candidate for victory, as is Richard Hannon`s Lusail (Pat Dobbs), who narrowly missed out on victory in the St James`s Palace Stakes (Group 1). In that fixture New Energy (Robert Colgan) played no part but ran strongly behind the winner in the Irish 2000 Guineas before that. Light Infantry (Jamie Spencer) finished not far behind Lusail in the English 2000 Guineas, the previous year the Simcock protégé won two races. Rozgar (Christophe Soumillon) has yet to lose a game this year. Tenebrism (Ryan Moore) came off respectably in the Coronation Stakes (Group 1). Accakaba (Maxime Guyon) is recommended by two Group placings. Mangoustine (Olivier) won at Longchamp and disappointed at Ascot. Siam Paragon (Stephane Pasquier) took a short break after winning a Listed race.
