Native Trail`s season debut in the Craven Stakes

Newmarket, Wednesday 13 April: Two Group 3 races will be in the spotlight on the second day of the Craven Meeting at Newmarket.

The Abernant Stakes (4th race/16.00/£80,000/1210m) is reserved for three-year-olds and older horses. Ebro River (Jamie Spencer) crowned his last season with victory in the Phoenix Stakes (Group 1) and the season debutant is immediately among the closest favourites. The three-year older Garrus (Ryan Moore) will certainly not give him anything, especially as he has already gained fitness at List level in Doncaster. Jumby (William Buick) is a track specialist and just as indispensable as Bellosa (Adam Kirby), who has won here twice.

The three-year-olds will complete a Derby test in the Craven Stakes (5th race/16.35pm/£80,000/1610m). Eyes will be on the unbeaten Native Trail (William Buick), trained by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin. The two-time Group 1 winner clearly stands out, partly because his six rivals have not yet raced on an upmarket circuit. Star Of India (Ryan Moore), Al Mubhir (Tom Marquand) and Claymore (Adam Kirby) won on career debut and are among the Appleby protégé`s main opponents.
