Guineas Festival on the Rowley Mile

Newmarket, Friday 29 April: The three-day Guineas Festival begins today at the Rowley Mile in Newmarket.

The Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes (5th race/16.35pm/120,000 pounds/2414m) will be looking for Sir Ron Priestley`s successor. Godolphin is in with two horses with good chances. Yibir (William Buick) from Charlie Appleby`s quarters has already run at Meydan this year and narrowly missed out on victory in the Dubai Sheema Classic (Group 1). The three-time millionaire gets shooting help from West End Charmer (Ryan Moore), for whom Charlie and Mark Johnston are responsible. The Nathaniel son won a handicap here last year and most recently finished third at Listed level. Outbox (Hollie Doyle) has also been out in the desert this year. He won a Group 1 race over grass in Doha against Mutabahi and Fox Tal, both of whom are well-known in this country. Living Legend (Joe Fanning) deserves attention as a fresh double winner. Raymond Tusk (Martin Harley) is another horse in form with a chance of placing, while the ageing Red Verdon (Marco Ghiani) is only one of the outsiders despite his undisputed class.
