Mondays at Windsor

it´s a sign of summer coming when Windsor opens its doors for the season, and from now on there will be racing at the Thames-side track almost every Monday until the autumn, usually in the evenings. It is not yet light enough for evening racing - that starts next week- but there are 8 races there this afternoon. Richard Hughes., now in his final season, is the top jockey here and he rides in every race, in the first six for brother-in-law Richard Hannon, and the pair can expect to go home with a winner or two, with perhaps their best chance in the 3yo handicap at 15.10 CET with Sugar Lump.

There is also flat racing today at Redcar, with the mile handicap at 16.50 the main event. Taghreed (Brian Meehan/ Paul Hanagan), one of severall runners here for Hamdan al Maktoum, is the interesting one, as he won his only start last year and is difficult for the handicapper to assess; however the trainer has not hit form so far tjhis year, so we prefer the more proven Ellaal (Ruth Carr/ Peter McDonald), beaten only a short head over this CD last week.
There is jumping at Kelso in the Scottish Borders and Tramore in S.Ireland. The one we like here is German-bred Quicuyo (James Ewart/ Lucy Alexander) at 15.30; this full brother to Grosser Preis von Baden winner Quijano has not won for 3 years, but has come down a lot in the weights and meets much weaker opposition than usual. Lucy´s father and brother are represented by CD specialist Isla Pearl Fisher 2 hours later, and these two 12yo´s could provide the Alexander family with an each-way double.
