Usual Tuesday fare

Tuesday is normally the weakest day of the week, and so it is again today, with two low-level flat meetings this afternoon and one on the all-weather this evening, as well as a poor N.H. card at Ffos Las. The best betting opportunities are in our opinion at Catterick and the second division of the 2 mile handicap at 16.50 should lie between Waltz Darling (Keith Revelely/ Emma Sayer) and Jolie Blonde (Sir Mark Prescott), who both won over this CD 3 weeks ago. Come On Sunshine (Brian Ellison/ Dale Swift), who has won twice over hurdles since his last flat race, and veteran Irish raider Whatuthink (Oliver McKiernan/ Ben Curtis), a Grade Two winner over hurdles in younger days, also come into calculations, but Sir Mark does so well with these improving 3yo´s that we expect Jolie Blonde, despite a huge hike in the weights, to score again. However she does here, we fancy Emma Sayer to take the first division half an hour earlier on her mother´s German-bred Cool Baranca, also a winner here last time out, while another German-bred with an interesting each-way chance is Fieldgunner Kirkup (David Barron/ Graham Gibbons) over his best distance of 7 furlongs at 15.50.

With the Andrew Balding stable in such good form, Geordan Murphy (David Probert) can take the mile handicap at Windsor at 15.00, where Chess Valley (Willie Musson/ Cam Hardie) could be the main danger; should the latter run well, that would be an obvious pointer to So Noble (Willie Muir/ Steve Drowne) half an hour later.
