German winner at Newmarket?

There could well be a German winner at Newmarket today, as we think that Phoibe (Peter Schiergen/ Joe Fanning) must have good prospects in the valuable sales race for 2yo fillies at 16.05 CET at Newmarket. She was an unlucky runner-up on her only start so far, at Munich, and the winner there won a listed race last week. The obvious danger is Supreme Occasion (David O´Meara/ Pat Dobbs), fourth in a Group Two at Doncaster last week. To be honest, this is a very poor race for the money, and the colts´ version at 16.40 is not much better; that should go to Heartbreak Hero (William Haggas/ Seb Sanders), runner-up in a similar race at Doncaster last time. Phoibe was sold at Tattersalls- she has to be in order to be qualified to run here - and is not German-bred, but there are two German-breds running later on the card who should go well: Big Easy (Philip Hobbs/ Tom Queally) at 17.15 and Energizer (Charlie Appleby/ Jim Crowley) at 18.55.

Betting forecast:
1. Race: Al Nofor - Moonlight Sonata - Sweet Dream
2. Race: Lady Of Dubai - Wiener Valkyrie - Sperry
3. Race: Supreme Occasion - Hundi - Phoibe
4. Race: Heartbreak Hero - Bossy Guest - Ballymore Castle
5. Race: Entihaa - Mubaraza - Teak
6. Race: Front Page News - Joe Packet - Jontleman
7. Race: Asyad - Rewaaya - Ski Lift
8. Race: Dream Spirit - Dark Emerald - Master The World

There is a much better card at Newbury, but the meeting has been spoilt by the weather which has turned the ground soft and as a result there are lots of non-runners. The Group Three at 14.50 is billed as an Arc Trial, but it would be a miracle is any of these were to run in Paris. Hillstar (Sir Michael Stoute/ Ryan Moore) is the form choice, but despite several good places he has won since Royal Ascot 2013 and we are not sure he will go on this ground. Camborne (John Gosden/ Rab Havlin) won this last year on the soft, but has been below form this year, so we choose course specialist Cubanita (Ralph Beckett/ Andrea Atzeni). The Group Two Mill Reef Stakes for 2yo´s at 15.20 is usually a good race, but has also been affected by the weather; Strath Burn (Charlie Hills/ Jamie Spencer), runner-up in the Robert Papin last time, is out choice here. There are also several non-runners in the Group Three sprint at 16.30; the much improved Mecca´s Angel (Michael Dods/ Paul Hanagan) has won his last 3 races in excellent style and can continue his winning run here.

Betting forecast:
1. Race: Stoked - Harbour Patrol - Ashridge Lad
2. Race: Hillstar - Tasaday - Glorious Protector
3. Race: Jungle Cat - Strath Burn - Baitha Alga
4. Race: Air Pilot - Roseburg - Arab Dawn
5. Race: Mecca`s Angel - Take Cover - Scream Blue Murder
6. Race: Harlequin Striker - Silver Quay - Little Palaver
7. Race: Maraakib - Miracle Ninetynine - Coorg
8. Race: Debit - Weekendatbernies - Cincuenta Pasos
