there has been a lot of rain in many parts of the U.K. this week, and the going today at Newbury and Newmarket will be much softer than forecast, while Nottingham seems to have missed all the bad weather and the going there is good to firm. As a result there are many non-runners and punters are advised to check before placing their bets.
Top race in the U.K. today is the listed race for 2yo fillies over 5 furlongs at 16.55 CET at Newbury. All 10 runners ae winner, 5 of them last time out, and as they have rarely encountered (if at all) going as soft as it is now, it is difficult to make a choice, but obviousl,y the 3 fillies trained by Richard Hannon must be on the short list - Dangerous Moonlight (Richard Hughes), Parsley (Pat Dobbs) and Spirit of Xian (Sean Levey), with Hughes probably on the best chance. With the Godolphin stables now going well, Blue Aegean (Charlie Appleby/ Silvestre de Sousa) could be the main danger.
Andrea Atzeni´s mount in that race is a non-runner. but he can take the day´s best handicap on Charlie Fellowes´ Epsom Hill at 16.20. The only 3yo in the field, he won so easily at Thirsk a fortnight ago that he should certainly be able to cope with today´s slightly longer distance (1 mile 5 furlongs) and stronger opposition, and he is also sure to act on the ground.
