3 poor meetings today

a very low key start to the week, with jumps racing from Kelso and flat racing from Windsor and Redcar. It is difficult to get a handle on flat form on turf at present, with most runners coming off a long break or with all-weather form that does not always work out on grass. Windsor starts its very popular series of evening fixtures in 3 weeks time, but we cannot imagine there will be many spectators there today, although most of the top jockeys are riding. The most interesting events ar the races for 3yo´s and although the two handicaps are too tricky to call, the 10 furlongs maiden at 17.10 CET should certainly be watched, as there are some well-bred runners here from top stables. Cannock Chase (Sir Michael Stoute/ Ryan Moore) is our tentative suggestion; he ran very green but with great promise on his only start last year.
The mile handicap at 16.50 is the best betting race at Redcar. Mark Johnston has runners at Windsor and also 2 here, so it is significant that his main jockey Joe Fanning partners Cloverdale, an easy winner of his only start so far, at Southwell 12 days ago. It is possible that the handicapper has underestimated him with a mark of 84. Capaill Liath (Kevin and Amy Ryan) ran well at the recent Doncaster meeting and is an obvious danger, so is course specialist Kiwi Bay (Michael Dods/ Connor Beasley) off bottom weight.
Tony McCoy is very busy these days and is in action at Kelso today with 3 rides for Donald McCain.Katachenko should certainly win the opener at 15.00, while Whiskey Chaser a half an hour later and Sealous Scout at 16.30 also have fair prospects. Otherwise Nick and Lucy Alexander have several good chances here.
