listed races at Chester and Newbury

after a wonderful week´s racing at Glorious Goodwood, racing moves down a gear today, but there are two decent listed events, at Chester over 6 furlongs at 16.05 CET and at Newbury for fillies over a mile and a half at 16.50. In the latter race, Songbird (Lady Cecil/ Frankie Dettori) is likely to start a hot favourite; she was won both her races in promising style, and although this is a leap in class, there does not appear to be much strength in the opposition, of whom Seal of Approval (James Fanshawe/ George Baker) and Kikonga ((Luca Cumani/ Kirsty Milczarek) look the most dangerous.
Local trainer Tom Dascombe has his string in good form and he can take the Chester race with Ballista (Richard Kingscote), who has two wins over this tricky course to his credit. They were over 5 furlongs, but he also gets this trip and is well drawn. Godolphin´s ex-Australian Soul (Saeed bin Suroor/ Kieren Fallon) is top-rated here, but he made no show on his only start this year - admittedly in a far stronger race - and is drawn on the outside. Khubala (Hugo Palmer/ Martin Dwyer) ran well in a big York handicap last time and could be more of a danger.
There is also N.H. racing at Market Rasen and Galway - the final day of their Festival Meeting. Tony Martin and Ruby Walsh look the team to follow at the Irish track.
