Black type races at Cork

The two U.K.meetings today are nothing special, but the Irish card at Cork has a couple of decent races, with the Group Three Noblesse Stakes over 1 1/2 miles for fillies and mares at 17.20 CET the main event. Dermot Weld has won this 3 times in the last 4 years and score again with Princess Highway (Pat Smullen), who carries a penalty for winning the Ribblesdale last year at Royal Ascot but is still clear top-rated.

Aidan O´Brien saddles 3 fillies here, but none of them looks good enough, and the two British runners Cubanita (Ralph Beckett/ Jim Crowley) and Testosterone (Ed Dunlop/ Kevin Manning) look the main dangers. Another who is clear top-rated here is Maarek (David Nagle/ Seamus Heffernan) in the listed sprint at 16.45; the going may not be as soft as he prefers, but he should still outclass this opposition, although Royal Ascot next week will be a different matter.

In England, Lady Jane Cecil had already shown that she has what it takes to continue her late husband´s work, and she can land an across-the-card double with Spiritoftomintoul (Pat Cosgrave) in the 1 1/2 mile maiden at 16.00 at Doncaster, and Magic of Reality (Tom Queally) in the fillies maiden at 16.25 at Salisbury. She and Queally also team up with Continuum in the opening handicap here, but this looks wide open and we just prefer top-weight John Biscuit (Andrew Baldi8ng/ Jimmy Fortune). Balding won the first two races at Sandown yesterday - both recommended here - and can repeat this feat today, with the speedy Top Cop (Jimmy Fortune), who is dropping in grade, fancied to win the 5 furlongs sprint at 15.50.
