Ludlow on, inspection at Ffos Las

there were expected to be no problems at Ffos Las today, but after a heavy overnight frost, the track must pass an inspection later. Should racing go ahead, Tony McCoy should certainly win the opening maiden hurdle on Rebecca Curtis´ Bally Rone at 14.50 CET, and could also take the bumper at 17.30 with the same trainer´s In the Gate; however well-bred debutant Thomas Junior (David Pipe/ Micky Ennis) could be a danger here, as he is owned by racecourse boss Dai Walters. Earlier Pipe and McCoy team up with Bamboleo at 15.20 who has a good chance, although we also like bottom-weight William Hogarth here. We would love to see 15yo Victory Gunner (Richard Lee/ Michael Nolan) follow up last week´s Chepstow win under a penalty at 16.25 and this does not look at all impossible.
Jumping at Ludlow goes ahead, and our best bet here is German-bred Seventh Sky (Charlie Mann/ Gavin Sheehan=) in the handicap hurdle at 17.40. The half-brither to Samum took a long time to get acclimatised to British racing bur came good 17 days ago with an easy win at Taunton and can score again under 9 lbs extra; Pearls Legend (John Spearing/ Nico de Boinville), a CD winner a month ago looks the main danger, as our old friend Aviso (David Evans/ Denis O´Regan)- winner of the German 2,000 Guineas six years ago- appears to have lost form.
Southwell stages an addditional jumpers bumpers meeting today to make up for all the fixtures lost to the weather recently. form does not always work out as expected in these races, but another German-bred Dawn Commander (Charlie Longsdon/ Noel Fehily) must go close in the race at 15.55. The same team run Ostland at 16.30, who has been off the track for almost a year; he has won 5 times over jumps in the U.K. but in 2008 finished runner-up in the German Derby and a repetition of that form would make him hard to beat here.
There is also flat racing on the all-weather at Wolverhampton this afternoon and this evening in Dundalk in Ireland; there is also Irish N.H. racing at Clonmel, so that we have 6 meetings today (assuming Ffos Las goes ahead). There will however be no racing tomorrow, Good Friday, in the U.K. and Ireland.
