Rest of today´s racing

York has been particularly hard hit by the weather and we would be very cautious betting on this track today. The conditions race over 10 furlongs at 15.30 CET looks quite interesting, despite the non-runners (a feature every race here). Mijhaar (Roger Varian/ Neil Callan) is quickly pulled out again, after finishing 32nd (!) in the Cambridgeshie on Saturday. We much prefer the Godolphin pair Modun (Kieren Fallon) and Prince Siegfried (Mikael Barzalona), bith trained by Saeed bin DSuroor. Neither has really lived up to expectations but should be good enough in this grade; there is little between them on form, but we feel that Prince Siegfried may handle the ground better. He used to be trained by Andrew Balding, who will know what his chances are with Expense Claim (Jimmy Fortune). In our view Balding and Fortune have better chances later with German-bred Dandy (from an excellent Röttgen family) in the 3yo handicap at 17.15 and Soviet Rock in the 2yo maiden at 17.50.

They go over jumps at Carlisle where the fields are smaller but the going equally bad. Best race here is the 2 mile handicap chase at 17.30, in which Moulin de la Croix (Nigel and Sam Twiston-Davies) is clear favourite following his easy win at Newton Abbot 11 days ago. We shall oppose him with German-bred Bocciani (Brian Ellison/ Denis O´Regan) who goes well on heavy ground and likes this track. Otherwise we are interested in seeing how Attaglance (Malcolm Jefferson/Harry Haynes) gets on on his first attempt at jumping fences at 18.00; a smart hurdler last season, winning at both Cheltenham and Aintree, he should win this is handling the ground andjumping round safely.

The ground will be desperate at Tramore and we shall swerve this meeting, but the all-weather racing at Dundalk this evening is more interesting, and features a listed race over 7 furlongs for 2yo´s at 20.30. Newmarket raider No Jet Lag (David Lanigan/ Ted Durcan) has the highest rating, but we think there could be another Coolmore winner, with Cougar Ridge (David Wachman/ Wayne Lordan), Lines of Battle (Aidan and Joseph O´Brien) and Infanta Branca (O´Brien/ Seamus Heffernan) their 3 candidates here.
