Cesarewitch at Newmarket

The one race on Newmarket´s card today which is not a group race is for many people the main event of the day, the Cesarewitch, a 2 1 /4 miles handicap at 16.35 CET and one of the biggest betting races of the season. With 34 runners this is horribly difficult, but we shall try to increase the odds in our favour by knocking out all the top weights (including Hurricane Higgins, arguably the form horse after his third place on the Doncaster Cup), all 3yo´s (including second favourite Montaser) and all horses drawn above 15, including the fancied irish runners Olympiad and I Have a Dream. This leaves us with only 10 to choose from, including the favourite Countrywide Flame (John and Jimmy Quinn); obviously he must be respected, having won the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham, and making all to win at Chester on his only flat start this year, but he has never actually run over a distance as far as this and anyway, favourites very rarely win here, so we shall leave him out as well. We are probably miles out here, but our selection is Bernie the Bolt (Andrew Balding/ David Probert) and our other hopes are Nafaath (Neil King/ Mikael Barzalona), front-runner Beyond (David Pipe/ CP Hoban) and O Ma Lad (Silvester Kirk/ Raul da Silva).
