listed race at Salisbury

the best card today is at Salisbury where the main feature is a listed race for 2yo fillies over 6 furlongs at 16.15 CET. This is quite an open affair with experienced fillies up against newcomers such as Tantshi (Roger Varian/ Neil Callan) and Winning Express (Ed Mcmahon Franny Norton), both winners of their only start and now moving up in grade, while Jadanna (James Given/ Graham Lee) is the highest rated filly, having won twice earlier in the year and then racing in top company - such as her third in the Cherry Hinton. Impressive Leicester winner El Manati (James Tate/ Martin Dwyer) and Supernova Heights (Brian Meehan/ Frankie Dettori), beaten a head by Tantshi, also come into the reckoning in a race which should be watched but not necessarily bet on. The same goes for the two divisions of the 7 furlongs maiden race for 2yo fillies earlier on the card, which some very well-bred debutantes running, e.g. Godolphin´s Intiba (Saeed bin Suroor/ Dettori) and the Queen´s Sweet as Honey (Richard Hannon/ Richard Hughes) in the first division at 15.10. From the betting point of view the 7 furlongs handicap for fillies at 16.45 is more interesting. There is little between Elusive Flame (David Elsworth/ William Buick) and Alice´s Dancer (William Muir/ William Carson) on Newmarket running, but the Queen could well take this with Free Verse (Hannon/ William Twiston-Davies), fourth in a better race at Ascot last time.
The Queen could also have a winner at Haydock, where her Galleon (Sir Michael Stoute/ Robert Winston) is the likely favourite for the 1 1/2 mile handicap at 17.40. However this is a very tricky race with several possibilities. One of them is ex-German Waldvogel (out of the smart Wurftaube) (Nicky Richards/ Paul Mulrennan), who was one of the better German 3yo´s in 2007 and has now dropped to a very favourable mark after some rather poor performances. The 7 furlongs conditions race here at 16.35 is another decent race and our fancy is Ptolemaic (Brian Smart/ Tom Eaves), who has been running respectably in much better company, e.g. his seventh place to Camelot in the 2,000 Guineas.
There is N.H. racing this afternoon at Sedgefield where Jason Maguire looks the jockey to follow. He can win the first two races on Indepub at 15.20 and Brady at 15.50 for his boss Donald McCain, and has some good rides for other trainers as well, including the German-bred Snooker for Rose Dobbin at 18.30. Another German-bred with a small each-way chance is Moon Melody (Mike Sowersby/ Samantha Drake) in the staying handicap chase at 18.00.
There is also a late afternoon mixed meeting in Ireland at Clonmel (four flat races followed by four over hurdles) and evening racing on the all-weather at Kempton. A German-bred that might run well at Clonmel is Beliar (E Doyle/ MJ Ferris) in the handicap hurdle at 19.50, while at Kempton we like the chances of Godolphin´s Inthar in the 3yo handicap at 21.10, Dettori´s only ride at this meeting.
