the best race at the two U.K. meetings today is the listed six furlongs sprint at 17.00 CET at Salisbury. Top handicapper Our Jonathan (Kevin Ryan/ Franny Norton) has the highest rating here and is also our selection. All his recent wins have been with this jockey in the saddle, including the Ayr Gold Cup, and soft ground is no problem. Top-weight Eton Rifles (Steve Williams/ William Carson) and Definightly (Roger Charlton/ James Doyle) also go well on the soft and look thr main dangers. (Ed McMahon/ Sean Levey), the only 3yo in the field, won 3 races as a juvenile and is also not out of it.
The maiden race over a mile for 3yo fillies here at 16.25 has a well-bred debutant from the Sir Michael Stoute stable at the start, but on public form should lie between Chigun (Sir Henry Cecil/ Ian Mongan) and Ensejaam (Charlie Hills/ Paul Hanagan). We also like Solemn (Milton Bradley/ Dane O´Neill) in the 5 furlongs handicap at 15,50; he has a huge weight but won so easily at Sandown last week that he can score again.
Best bet at Doncaster is Biographer (David Lanigan/ Ted Durcan) in the 1 1/2 mile maiden at 15.30. He ran a good race on his debut over 10 furlongs at Windsor last time when runner-up to Opinion, a winner in a better grade at Sandown yesterday, and the extra quarter-mile should be no problem. Durcan has another winning chance on in-form Tim Easterby´s Regal Acclaim in the 7 furlongs handicap at 17.10. The other handicaps look very tricky. We shall risk a small each-way investment on top-weight Thunderball (Scott Dixon/ Kieren Fallon) at 16.35 and Levitate (Alan McCabe/ Martin Harley) at 17.40. The latter runs in the colours of Charles Wentworth, successful at Cologne recently in the German 2,000 Guineas.
