Doncaster Lincoln meeting: second day

The Doncaster meeting continues today with some huge fields, but mainly low level racing. It wiil be quite a culture shock for Jamie Spencer and Kieren Fallon, who are both due to ride here after being in action at Meydan yesterday evening! Easily the best race is the listed Doncaster Mile at 16.55 and we make Side Glance (Andrew Balding/ Jimmy Fortune) our best bet of the day here. He is not penalised for a pattern race success last season and has at least 7 lbs in hand according to official ratings. Penitent (David O´Meara/ Danny Tudhope), who won the Lincoln over this CD in 2010 but probably needs softer going, and Questioning (John Gosden/ William Buick) can take the minor placings.

Balding and Fortune also have a good chance of winning the day´s best handicap at 16.20 over 6 furlongs with Desert Law, but this looks wide open affair, and Docofthebay (Scott Dixon/ Ian Mongan), better handicapped on turf than on the all-weather, and King of Jazz (Michael Bell/ Spencer), having his first race since leaving Richard Hannon, also make the short list. Balding could even make it a hat-trick with Tappanappa (David Probert) in the conditions race over 1 1 /2 miles at 17.30, who has already won twice this year, but on ratings he cannot beat King of Wands (Gosden/ Buick), who is however making his comeback from 20 months off the track.
