Deauville today

Easily the best racing in Europe comes from Deauville today, where there are two Group One races and a strong supporting card. Main interest will be focussed on the Prix Morny for 2yo´s over 1200 metres at 14.40, a race monopolised by British and Irish runners in recent years. However the British challengers, Frederik Engels (David Murtagh) and Gatepost (Mick Channon/ Jamie Spencer) -both well beaten at the Curragh last time- do not seem as strong as usual, although the former was badly hampered on that occasion, while there are no Irish runners at all. Champagne corks will be popping all over Munich if Dabirsim (Christophe Ferland/ Frankie Dettori) wins for the boss Simon Springer, and it is certainly not impossible; the colt is unbeaten in 3 starts and looked very smart when winning over this CD last time. Family One (Yves Barberot/ Ioritz Mendizibal), already winner of 4 races this season, looks the best of the other French runners, but Sofast (Freddie Head/ Olivier Peslie r), whose stable has such a fantastic record at this meeting, cannot be ignored.
