6 meetings today

There are 6 meetings today, but nothing of much significance. Easily the best event is the listed race over a mile at 19.40 CET at Windsor´s evening meeting. Side Glance (Andrew Balding/ Jimmy Fortune) was a very consistent handicapper last season, but seems to have moved up a gear this year and was a very easy winner of a similar race at Ascot 12 days ago. A repetition of that form would be good enough to see him score again here and he looks well up to group race standard. The Cheka (Eve Johnson Houghton/ Kieren Fallon), was narrowly beaten by the smart Lolly for Dolly in Ireland last time was pulled out of a better race than this on Saturday and looks the only danger, as Penitent (William Haggas/ Richard Hughes) probably needs softer going.

Henry Cecil rarely sends runners to Brighton, so Emilio Largo (Tom Queally), his only runner of the day, is of interest. Trained last year by Ralph Beckett, he was 5th of 10 in quite a decent maiden at Salisbury in May. He has not been seen since, but should still be good enough to take the mile maiden at 16.10, where Muhandis (Ed Dunlop/ Richard Hills) looks the only conceivable danger. We also expect top-weight Piazza san Pietro (Andy Haynes/ Neil Callan), who has a good record at Brighton, to take the 6 furlongs handicap here at 17.40.

The best race at Redcar is the 7 furlongs handicap at 16.50. In an open race our suggestion is Ezra Church (David Barron/ Lee Newman), a close second at Newcastle last week, but Frognal (Ruth Carr/ James Sullivan) and Rio Cobolo (David and Adrian Nicholls) also look dangerous.

The other meetings, at Wolverhampton (all-weather) this afternoon , and this evening at Roscommon (Ireland) and Towcester (N.H.), with all respect, are hardly worth a second glance.
