Deauville today

Another full card at Deauville with 13 races (5 this morning) and maximum fields in almost all of them. Most of the races are claimers or low level handicaps, so the quality is not much better than at Southwell, but the prize-money certainly is - about five times higher in fact. The money has also attracted several German runners, but all these races look very tricky and following the dreadful weather at home the Germans could be at a disadvantage. The best chance of a German winner could be in the 1500 metres claimer for 3yo´s at 14.35 CET, in which Asuluman (Mario Hofer/ Romain Briand), Timolin (Hans Blume/ Michael Poirier) and Cayman (Christian von der Recke/ Stephane Breux) are all engaged. Although Cayman is not necessarily the form choice, he is our tentative suggestion, as training conditions at Weilerswist appear to be better than at the major German centres. Nelson (Sascha Szmrcek/ Henk Grewe) and Marlow (Mario and Steffi Hofer) are the best German runners entered to day, but they run in the very hot tierce´ handicap at 13.35, and a better bet is arguably Naidoo (Marion Rotering/ Mikael Mescam) in the amateur riders claiming race at 13.00.

Betting forecast:

2. Race: Zimri - Beaumont - Silver Valny
