U.K. racing today

A normal Monday programme today, with flat racing this afternoon at Folkestone and this evening at Pontefract and Windsor, while there is also jumping from Newton Abbot. Andrew Balding is an infrequent visitor to Folkestone, both his two runners there this afternoon, both with Liam Keniry in the saddle, should run well: Brave Bugsy in the 2 mile handicap at 16.45 CET, who won over this trip at Bath last time and probably has Goodwood scorer On Terms (Simon Dow/ Tom Queally) and last year´s winner, top-weight Sweetheart (Jamie Poulton/ Steven Donohoe) to beat; and Mecox Bay in the maiden race over 10 furlongs an hour later, he showed some ability in his two starts last year but has not raced since. Well-bred debutant Cockney (Mark Johnston/ Frankie Dettori) and Blitzed (Gary Moore/ Fergus Sweeney)are the dangers here.

Gary Moore can also get on the scorecard at Newton Abbot´s N.H. card with Alhaque, with son Jamie riding, in the novice hurdle at 16.30. A couple of German-breds here whose chances will depend a bit on the weather, are Alroyal (PC Dando/ Mr. DG Pritchard) in the handicap chase at 17.00 and top-weight Moon Star in the handicap hurdle half an hour later. Alroyal needs form going, while any rain would help the chances of Moon Star.
At Windsor this evening, the 5 furlong handicap for 3yo´s t 21.00 looks interesting; Kingscote Choice (John Best/ Robert Winston) won in good style at Ffos Las last time in good style and is the selection here. Otherwise it should pay to follow Richard Hannon, who is by a big margin the top trainer at this track and has fancied runners in several races.

Mr. Wolf (John Quinn/ Tony Hamilton) is a real Pontefract specialist and can improve his record here in the 5 furlongs handicap at 22.15, where the fourtimer-chasing Chosen One (Ruth Carr/ James Sullivan) is an obvious danger. Mr. Wolf is such a standing dish here that the main event this evening, a 6 furlongs handicap for 3yo´s at 20.45, is named after him. This can go to top-weight Bated Breath (Charlton/( Jimmy Fortune), who won his onöy start in promising fashion. Fortune also has chances in the other 3yo handicap, this time over 10 furlongs at 21.15 with Clive Brittain´s Azlak, but Godolphin´s Pass Muster (Mahmoud al Zarooni/ Ahmed Ajtebi), another once-raced colt with top weight, may prove his master.
