N.H.racing at Warwick and Thurles (Ireland)

Stamina will be at a premium today at Warwick, where the main event at 17.25 is a handicap chase over 3 1/2 miles. 7 runners here, 3 of them trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies including the top-weights Jaunty Journey with stable jockey Paddy Brennan and Naunton Brook with son Sam; both ran badly last time but the stable is now in better form and both of them should get the trip.

That could be a problem for form horses Notabotheronme (Philip Hobbs/ Richrd Johnson) and Kildonnan (Jim Old/ Jason Maguire), both stepping up in distance. One of the unluckiest losers of the season so far was Court in Motion (Emma Lavelle/ Jack Doyle), who stumbled at the last when 10 lengths clear at Exeter last time, he can gain compensation in the novice hurdle at 15.10. Peveril (Nicky Henderson/ David Bass), a CD winner last time, is the main danger. There could well be a German-bred winner of the 4yo hurdle at 15.40; Fin Vin de Leu (Charlie Mann/ Daryl Jacob) is the form choice here, after running-up in good company at Sandown, while Double Handful (Venetia Williams/ Sam Thomas) is an interesting newcomer. Last year, when trained by Michael Figge, he led for a long way in the German Derby. Another ex-German with chances is Federstar (Milton Harris/ Charlie Poste) in the handicap hurdle at 17.55.

Cheltenham and Aintree clues could be found today in Ireland, where the main event at Thurles is the Grade Two novice chase over 2 1/2 miles at 15.20. An Cathaoir Mor (Harry de Bromhead/ David Casey) is the class act here and can defeat Kempes (Willie Mullins/ Ruby Walsh) and Jagoes Mills (Tom O´Leary/ Davy Russell). The Cashel Chase over 2 1/4 miles at 15.45 is another good race. Three of the 7 runners have Grand National entries and it could lie between Dooneys Gate (Mullins/ Walsh) and Conna Castle (JJ and PF Mangan).
