With the Irish meeting at Clonmel abandoned, jumping fans today have to make do with two modest cards at Ludlow and Taunton. The introductory hurdle at 15.30 CET at Ludlow looks the most interesting event and it is possible that some of these runners will be seen later in much better races, for example Paul Nicholls´ Al Amaan (Christian Williams). The beginners chase at 16.00 has some useful hurdlers making their chasing debuts, including German-bred First Point (Nicky Henderson/ Barry Geraghty) and Noble Request (Philip Hobbs/ Richard Johnson). This could be the second leg of a double for Henderson and Geraghty, who also have good prospects of taking the 3 mile handicap chase at 15.00 with You and I, also making his debut over fences. At Taunton, the novice hurdle at 15.40 also sees some potentially useful performers line up. Consistent Consulate (GF Edwards/ Daryl Jacob) sets the standard, having already won twice, but we doubt that he can give the weight awy. Australia Day (Paul Webber/ Wayne Kennedy) has also shown good form, and is also useful on the flat, but he fell early last time out. Two hurdling debutants from top stables- Saltagioo (Alan King/ Robert Thornton) and Slate Gem (Paul Nicholls/ Harry Skelton)- could be the two to beat here.
