German runners in France today

Flat racing in the Paris area is almost finished for the year, but the provinces are still going strong and today there are several German-trained runners at Lyon, all from the Iffezheim stables of Werner Hefter, Horst Steinmetz and Wolfgang Gülcher. Hefter saddles Tingly (Jean-Michael Breux) in the opening 2yo race at 12.50, Best Joking (Ioritz Mendizabal) in the aptly-named La Fleche (the arrow) over 1000 metres at 13.20 and Ange d´Azur (Breux) in the first division of the 2200 metres handicap at 14.55, in which race Steinmetz has entered Nasibow (Thibault Dachis) and Queen Petra (Mikael Forest). In the second division half an hour later, Albenga (Steinmetz/ Gaetan Masure) and Ostrava (Gülcher/ Eric Wehrel) are the German runners. Best Joking has clearly the best chance of these and we make this speedy filly the best bet of the day, but would also not be surprised to see Queen Petra also run well off a very light weight.
