large fields everywhere today

autumn is in the air and there are large fields everywhere today. Indeed at today´s 4 flat meetings in Britain and Ireland, only 2 of the 32 races have less than 11 runners. In fact at the Curragh, where there is an
additional day´s racing to make up for the many days lost in Ireland to the weather this summer, there are 4 races with 23+ runners. The maiden races here are the most intersting events, especially the 10 furlongs race for 3yo´s at 18.25 CET. Despite the huge field this can probably be narrowed down to Pittoni (John Oxx/ Mick Kinane), who has not run since his debut in June when he was beaten in a photo at odds-on, Duc de Savoie (Dermot Weld/ Pat Smullen) and Agricola (Jessica Harrington/ Fran Berry), who have both shown useful form, and Aidan O´Brien´s well-bred newcomer Majority Leader (Johnny Murtagh).O´Brien and Murtagh can in any case take the 2yo maiden at 15.15 with MidasTouch, while Weld and Smullen can counter with Hasaila in the fillies race at 17.25. In England, the best races are at Salisbury and most of the top jockeys - including Frankie Dettori and Ryan Moore- will be there. Frankie is there mainly to partner Godolphin´ s Secrecy in the best race of the day, a mile handicap at 17.20. This is a very open race and one of the more interesting runners is the ex-Fabre/Ullmann runner Saldenlicht, now with James Eustace. Frankie also has a chance with Andy Haynes´ Poppets Lovein (half-sister to Overdose) in the 3yo handicap at 16.45. Godolphin, who are currently in the winners´ circle every day, can also win the mile maiden at Windsor with the debutant Rainbow Desert (Ted Durcan). German-bred Carmenero (Conor Dore/ Steven Craine) has not troubled the judge in ages, but has dropped to a very nice weight in the 6 furlongs handicap here at 16.35 and could be an interesting each-way bet. There is also all-weather racing at Kempton, where the best bet could be My Kingdom (Hughie Morrison/ George Baker) in the 6 furlongs handicap at 17.30; generally consistent in this grade, he looked very unlucky last time out at Chester.
